The person leading your project at Carpenter Oak will typically have several decades of experience in bringing timber frames to life.
Our carpenters marry diligence and skill to deliver truly ambitious construction projects. A highly versatile craft, with almost limitless design options.
The foundation of our skilled team is their extensive experience with traditional pegged mortice and tenon jointing techniques. Combining this with specialist knowledge in partnering timber with steelwork and other modern materials opens up endless possibilities for design and structure.
Using cutting-edge Computer Aided Design tools alongside our traditional timber framing knowledge enables us to show and interrogate detail at every level. Applying this rigour with our trademark creativity facilitates some of our most complex and challenging buildings.
Every design and build process is unique. We bring together inspiration, traditional craft, and modern techniques to meet your individual needs and aspirations. Choosing Carpenter Oak is the beginning of a journey to creating an outstanding building. Our team have spent decades learning the careful and exacting skill it takes to bring timber framed buildings to life.
We have experience of many different construction techniques, work with a variety of timbers, and enjoy exploring how these can be combined to create a palette of details and finishes. This allows for almost limitless design options.
The first cut on a timber project is a significant moment. Following medieval principles of framing, the carpentry team apply their experience and skill to scribe each timber, creating an accurate grid throughout the building. Well planned carpentry is a satisfyingly smooth and efficient process.
Whilst driven by imagination and aspirations, designing a frame is detailed and precise work. We work directly with, or provide specifications and technical information to architects to ensure consistent quality from start to finish.
Your workforce communicated their genuine love and care, in turning green oak into what is now this structure of beauty and of strength. It really was a delight to experience the two days when Don and his team were erecting the frame for the first time. Now, and on reflection, I can recognise how valuable it was for you to spend those initial hours fostering our limited imagination for a building design. Miriam and I have both felt free to take part and to be carefully guided towards what is now emerging as a really proud and most exciting living space for us.

Working with you guys is much more of a pleasure than with most contractors or subcontractors, largely because you are so appreciative of doing a really good job.
Peter Clegg, Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects
I don’t know whether it is good luck or good management that you have such a likeable, enthusiastic and dedicated team working with and for you, but it was a pleasure to watch them at work.
