Historic buildings provide beautiful and inspiring examples of timber framing.
Carpenter Oak’s depth of understanding is informed by decades of experience; we have been working on buildings from the early medieval, to the 20th century industrial, making us one of the most trusted Oak Frame Restoration & Conservation experts. We know how to read buildings, working with architects and structural engineers to survey existing frames and propose sensitive schedules of repairs.
Carpenter Oak has developed specific expertise in integrating steel and other materials within timber frame structures. Combining these modern techniques with traditional practices provides new opportunities for sympathetic preservation of historic structures. This specialist knowledge and expertise provides essential material to underpin design, Planning, Listed Building and Building Control processes.
Award winning Oak Frame Restoration & Conservation
The work we produce is award winning. Our conservation specialists are members of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB). They lead cutting edge training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in timber engineering and conservation techniques. As a team, we value our work with young people and communities, supporting them to understand and get practically involved in heritage projects that matter to them.
We relish the adventure of bringing alive exceptional design every time – from the smallest frame to the most passionate renovation or oak frame restoration. Bring your vision to the table and we will place the tools of today, underpinned by thousands of years of history, at your service. Each project we have undertaken over the last three decades has been a showcase of great design and skill.
We’ve worked on Windsor castle after the fire in 1992 as well as Stirling Castle, along with many other buildings of historical importance. Have a look at some of the images below – including the work we did on Shackleton’s and Scott’s Huts in the Antarctic – the furthest afield we’ve gone for a job! (so far…)
