Manor house swimming pool building

Unlike most of the frames we design and create, the frame in this swimming pool building does not use any traditional mortice and tenon joints. The green oak frame has 3-way stainless steel tie rods (duplex grade for use in a swimming pool environment).

A portal frame style has been used to achieve a minimalist look, and tie bars and flitch plates stiffen the structure. The bolts are countersunk expressed, allowing the engineering to be viewed. Ridge glazing in the roof allows in natural light.

A further unusual feature are the vertical posts which are tapered down to the Portland stone staddle stones. A larger section of timber is required at the top, for the three-way connection of the timbers at the eaves, but they have been tapered down to a smaller section at floor level, making them more elegant and a common feature of English timber framing.
