Stunning compact living is provided by this unique oak-framed cabin set in a wood in Sussex. The cabin has been wonderfully furnished by its owner and is a perfect example of ‘small is beautiful’. Designed by Roderick James Architects we built the original structure for the cabin to be erected outside The Country Living Fair in Islington in 1998. The timber frame was then dismantled after the show and rebuilt on our client’s property and is now a very successful holiday cottage.
The cabin is designed around a 6m x 6m square footprint with nine 2m x 2m bays – each one containing a different interior function (i.e. galley kitchen, shower room, bed space etc). An upper sleeping platform was added in the central bay at the top of the pyramid roof shape.
