As part of an extensive renovation of their home, our clients wanted to create a bright, open-plan extension that would provide additional space for family life while complementing the property's existing period character.
Working alongside the client's architect and main contractor, Carpenter Oak was commissioned to design, fabricate and install the oak frame. The brief called for a contemporary addition that would feel both spacious and welcoming, seamlessly connecting the kitchen, dining and living areas.
Defined by a striking vaulted ceiling and elegant oak trusses, their small but mighty extension has transformed the way the home is used. The extension provides a contemporary space for the kitchen, dining area and family room, which in an ‘L’ shape, flow smoothly from one to the other, creating a sociable environment at the heart of the house.
Large powder-coated aluminium glazing units and rooflights flood the interior with natural light throughout the day, while the white roof boarding provides a crisp backdrop that highlights the beauty of the handcrafted oak frame. Exposed oak posts and braces bring warmth, texture and craftsmanship to the contemporary interior.
The finished extension is a bright and inviting family hub — a perfect example of how an oak frame can introduce architectural character and natural materials to create exceptional living spaces.
