We’re excited to invite you to a ‘Live Build’ event at a site near Ilminster, Somerset, on Saturday 11th July 2026. This is a rare chance to see one of our timber frame projects mid-construction – a perfect opportunity to experience the craft, detail and structure up close.

During a one-hour guided tour, you’ll:

Walk through a frame that’s been fully installed by our carpenters (below are images of the frame during installation).
See how the oak frame and Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) work together to create a high-performance, cohesive building system.
Chat with our team, ask questions, and get expert advice for your own project.

This event is ideal if you’re planning a self-build home or extension, or simply you're a professional in the industry and would like to understand more about structural timber frames and SIPs as a building system.

More about this project

This project is a large 2 bedroomed oak frame extension. It is connected to a Grade II listed former pottery with a conical thatched roof, with a glazed link between the two buildings.

The client attended an Open House event we hosted with the architects of this house, Roderick James Architects, in May 2024. Following this they appointed them to manage their renovation, and Carpenter Oak to build the oak framed element of their project.

As part of the initial process with the client, we provided them with an estimate for their oak frame and a detailed 7-page sketch design (see images below), helping them to get a really good understanding of what their extension would look like.
