Our Wiltshire yard, near Colerne, is where the Carpenter Oak journey began. The original founders, Roderick James and Charley Brentnall met whilst working on a lake side folly. Both had a passion for timber framed buildings, Roderick wanted to build new structures, Charley was heavily involved in the repair and conservation of existing tructures.
This chance meeting saw the birth of Carpenter Oak and Woodland in December 1987.
Since then, our Wiltshire yard, now under the ‘Carpenter Oak’ name, has been at the cutting edge of timber frame design and construction. From the biggest solar canopy in the UK, a groundbreaking residential development in Cambridge, to an oak framed roof in the heart of London – all RIBA Award winners.
The Wiltshire yard has also seen some of the most interesting and challenging projects. They have made siege weapons, restored the Shackleton and Scott huts in Antarctica and restored the Windsor Castle roof after the fire in 1992.
