The Fleece at Ruleholme

A well-proportioned, classic frame

There were two elements to this project – the internal frame and external wraparound verandas. We didn’t need to contribute much in terms of design. The architects, Ashwood Design Associates, had really done their homework and had conceived a classically designed, well-proportioned frame. They had chosen traditional details – oak common rafters, exposed oak floor joists and lots of braces. The bays were all the same sizes and this created natural spacing between tables for the restaurant.

Delivering on time during a difficult time

The site was a few hours from Carpenter Oak’s yard in Scotland, so the frame was handcrafted there. The first part to go on site was the internal frame which was erected in one week as soon as covid lockdown restrictions were lifted, with all involved in the project pulling together to ensure the site was ready for the frame.

Once the main core of the building had been built and the roof was on and scaffolding off, we could then return, about four months later, to raise the external oak frame veranda.

An impressive venue 

The completed building is now a stunning hotel, gastropub and restaurant that combines luxury with tradition to impress anyone who comes to visit or stay.
