South Hams Garden Studio

Carpenter Oak provided a complete service for Brigitte providing architectural design services and planning applications & building regulations. As well as handcrafting the frame and the soft-wood boarding, we collaborated with her on design elements and aesthetic decisions, supporting her choices from frame to floor finish.

The build started in November 2019 and there were a few hitches along the way. Bad weather and the Covid pandemic caused delays. But once completed Brigitte was overjoyed with the finished product. She loves the structure and how it opens up and frames the views of the rolling Devon hills.

“The project not only met my expectations but exceeded them. I love seeing the natural beauty of the oak, the rafters, the eaves and having the height. The space has become more multi-purpose than I planned as it’s such a lovely place to be in – I’m thrilled with it!”

We revisited the project in August 2021 and it was great to see how versatile the space had become. Garden rooms and studios can be anything you want them to be, to suit your lifestyle. These small open spaces offer flexibility, giving you space for guests to stay, extra room for entertaining and socialising or a place to enjoy work or hobbies.
