Cruciform House – The Oak Framed House Featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs

A distinctive and widely recognised Carpenter Oak Ltd oak frame house, which features as one of the top Grand Design houses from Channel 4’s first series. Julie Upton knew for several years she wanted to build using green oak, having following with interest a build during her daily commute:

“I absolutely loved it and knew then that if I ever built a house, it would have to be a Carpenter Oak Frame” – Julie Upton

A dramatic contemporary oak frame home, with extensive glazing, high up on the Berkshire Downs commanding a 360 degree view of the Lambourn valley. The four wings of the cruciform design lead into a central octagonal shaped kitchen with a void above to the glazed roof lanterns and a galleried 1st floor landing.

Designed by Roderick James Architects, this Grand Designs oak framed house is one of our most recognised Grand Design houses – find out more about this project or contact us to find out more.
