Traditional house with a contemporary twist in Devon
Location:
South Devon
Architect:
Roderick James Architects LLP
Frame Design:
Carpenter Oak Ltd
Details:
Completed in 2011 this full oak frame, traditional home takes advantage of the very latest technologies, giving these clients a home with an energy efficiency of 95% and environmental impact rating of 96%, one of the highest in a house of this kind. The frame is insulated using the high performance SIPS; they have used triple glazing, PV and Solar panels and an air source heat pump. The house itself is oriented to face South and West to take full advantage of solar gain. Our client being a keen techie has developed a cunning battery storage system from his PV panels to power his LED lighting design.
The internal layout gives a contemporary feel with its open plan aspect. The dining area is a single storey element from which a double garage leads off. The dining area leads into the open plan kitchen and living room which is a two storey structure. Above 2 beds and bath and the master ensuite with fully glazed gable end and a balcony off.
This design gives this home a spacious, light and airy feel and to quote the clients;
'the oak frame gives our new home instant character'.
