Tigh na Mara
Location:
Argyll, Scotland
Architect:
Roderick James Architects LLP
Frame Design:
Carpenter Oak Ltd
Details:
Tigh na Mara (House by the Sea) is an exciting upside-down house with earth banking against the ground floor masonry structure with a green oak frame on the first floor. The open plan design with glass walls brings the outside in and maximises the fabulous views across the Sound to the Island of Mull.
Square in plan, with a pyramid roof, under which a glass floor lends more light down to the ground floor. The ground floor comprises two bedrooms, a bathroom and open plan family area. With a further bedroom and bathroom upstairs, this design incorporates the best in terms of light, space and economy of living.
