Barn roof and new extension in Devon
Location:
South Devon
Architect:
Roderick James Architects LLP
Frame Design:
Carpenter Oak Ltd
Details:
A new green oak frame structure inserted into the existing stone walls, with a green-oak framed 'barn' room extension creating a 'T' shape.
This was completed in 1998 and illustrates how a new extension can, in time, blend so effectively with the original house, with mature plants helping to achieve this softening of the hard edged look of newly built structures.
Also of note is the stone clad chimney which helps the extension tie in visually with the existing house.
