2 Storey contemporary oak frame in Hampshire
Location:
Hampshire
Architect:
Roderick James Architects LLP
Frame Design:
Carpenter Oak Ltd
Details:
This is a full oak framed 2 storey home on a farm in the open countryside in Hampshire. The front of the house is gently curved using a facetted oak frame system, rather than a true curve, to simplify the glazing and finishing. The walls and roof are clad with SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel System), a very efficient insulating system pre-manufactured off site. The timber for cladding and roof slates are sourced locally so blend well with this rural setting.
Internally with only the primary oak frame exposed, combined with some stainless steel bracing and extensive glazing help to create an open, airy space with a contemporary feel.
The house is orientated due South maximising passive solar gain and combined with SIPS, a ground soure heat pump and solar panels the energy needs are significantly reduced.
