CRAFTSMANSHIP

We have strong teams of experienced timber framers with skills and knowledge spanning the traditional and contemporary. Our timber frames are made with a hands on approach which allows the craftsmen to react appropriately to each piece of timber. The structures are framed up off site at our yard in Devon. Once the frame is complete it is transported to site, this has been as far away as Japan and America, where it is raised in a spectacular and short visit. The hundreds of projects which we have completed include houses of all sizes (the Upton House featured on C4 'Grand Designs'), public and commercial projects (the Olivier Theatre at Bedales School), conservation (following the fire, the medieval Royal Kitchen roof at Windsor Castle) and timber engineering (the 70m span footbridge at The Earth Centre in Doncaster) and many other buildings in a variety of architectural styles.

Oak frames are built to very tight dimensions using traditional jointing systems designed to minimise the effects of shrinkage and movement. Full workshop and frame drawings are needed to translate the frame from Architects' drawings into a form which can be built by the carpenters.
